Workday's "Power of One": My Consolidate, Integrate, Innovate Perspective
- June 11, 2024
In the world of enterprise software, Workday’s concept of “power of one” is a game-changer. It refers to the philosophy of having a single, unified platform manage all your crucial business data and processes. As a Workday user, I’ve experienced firsthand the transformative power of this approach. To fully appreciate this power, let’s unpack it using what I would like to call the “Consolidate, Integrate, Innovate” framework.
1. Consolidate: Start with all core data in one place, bringing order to your system. The “Consolidate” principle emphasizes the advantages of centralizing your core data – HR, Finance, Talent, and more – within Workday. No more disjointed systems, no re-learning interfaces, and no clunky integrations slowing you down.
This means:
Focus on the work, not the tech: Employees can direct their energy where it matters.
Collaboration across the board: Workflows become smoother as departments use the same system.
Insights at your fingertips: Real-time reporting based on unified, consistent data.
2. Integrate: Weave in external data for a complete picture. The “Integrate” viewpoint recognizes that no company works in a data bubble. Workday lets you incorporate external sources seamlessly, extending the benefits of their unified platform.
With a tool like Prism, you can:
Get the whole picture: Combine Workday data from the outside world and bring it smack to the middle of the discussion to blend and merge with any data in your Workday environment.
Tailored analytics: Create custom datasets and reporting based on this blended data.
No data left behind: No more feeling like some information is “out of reach.”
3. Innovate: Build custom solutions within Workday to drive future growth. The true power of the “power of one” is unleashed when you leverage Workday Extend. This feature lets you build custom apps, workflows, everything – directly within Workday, ensuring it’s secured and easily integrated.
Adapt the platform, don’t leave it: New processes and all the future data they are going to generate get built into Workday, not around it.
Evolve your apps: Extend apps are not blackboxes you buy off an appstore and are stuck with its functionality. Extend lets you streamline as your needs evolve.
Security first: Your custom additions are just as protected as the core Workday system.
From my perspective, Workday’s “power of one” isn’t just a slogan. By embracing the “Consolidate, Integrate, Innovate” framework, it moves from a concept to a system that saves time, improves efficiency, and gives you the freedom to shape the platform around your business, not the other way around.
